About Mazarron (Murcia, Spain)

Mazarron is located on the South Eastern corner of Spain, to the West of the historic city of Cartagena. There are excellent road links and airports at Alicante and Murcia (San Javier - Murcia Regional Airport) offer regular flights to Europe and beyond. Mazarron boasts some of the best beaches in Spain and a wonderful climate; the area is relatively undeveloped when compared to the more popular Spanish Costas and as such provides an excellent location for a peaceful family holiday.

Travelling time to Mazarrón is about 1½ hours from Alicante airport, and about one hour from San Javier in an average family car. Mazarron is actually two towns in one. There is the main town with its town hall, daily indoor fresh produce market, banks, medical facilities, shops etc. Then, there is its pretty seafront sister, Puerto de Mazarron.

The coast town of Puerto de Mazarron is known as the Cornwall of Spain with its pretty coves and harbours and pedestrianised walkways. The coastline of Puerto has many kilometres of fine unspoilt sandy beaches with safe bathing. The municipality has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag for water quality over consecutive years and The World Health Organisation recently declared the province of Murcia the cleanest area in Spain with the least industrial pollution.

During the long hot summer months, the water temperature in La Costa Calida rises to that of a warm bath so its the ideal place to master sports such as sailing, windsurfing, water and jet skiing as well as providing safe bathing for children.

Mazarrón is famous for its plethora of wonderful seafood dishes; mouth-watering local dishes include bonito fish with noodles, peppers, garlic, sauté tomatoes and aniseed; Mazarrón sea bass oven baked with pepper, potatoes, tomatoes dressed with pine nuts and speciality rice with lobster.
